Hello Sandi Klein Listeners!
NOW THAT I’M a bit more settled in, I wanted to take this time to introduce myself. My name is Melanie Breault –pronounced “bro,” and yes, that is for real, and no, I am not a “bro,” – and I am the new Web Editor and Social Media person for Sandi Klein’s Conversations with Creative Women!
I really can’t express how excited I am about this opportunity, mostly because I LOVE listening to women’s stories – their journeys, their struggles, their adventures, and on and on and on. In fact, I’ve decided to focus my graduate studies on women’s economic development while I attend Hunter College’s Urban Policy and Leadership program. I graduate in the spring, but not before I hand in a thesis on the impact of access to reproductive and sexual health centers in urban spaces on women’s quality of life.
My interest in women’s health is very personal. I recently learned I carry a genetic mutation known as Lynch Syndrome, which makes me more susceptible to certain kinds of cancers, in the same way that the BRCA 1 mutation increases carriers’ risks of breast and ovarian cancers. Before my diagnosis, I taught English to kindergarteners in Seoul, South Korea (see adorable photo above), and since then have traveled to many different countries learning about different cultures, trying new foods, and listening to the most eclectic collection of music. But probably my favorite part about all of that, is talking to people different from myself and hearing what makes them, well…them.
My background is in journalism and my true passion is writing, so I’d like to take those skills and help tell the stories of the women I’ve met along my journey and maybe tell the world a little more about myself too. So that’s me and it is because of all this that I am excited to continue be apart of this endeavor with Sandi Klein and her team. I can’t wait to get to know more creative women and help the world get to know them as well.
