Our Mission

Conversations with Creative Women captured the fire and energy, humor, heart, soul and impact of the female creative experience. It had been a long time coming, but women were finally beginning to be recognized as major forces in the creative landscape. For those not yet recognized, Sandi ensured they would begin to get the attention they deserved. The women Sandi interviewed were powerful forces in every conceivable field in every possible role: as performers, writers, directors, musicians, composers, painters, sculptors, curators, fashion designers, businesswomen, scientists, educators, investors, and many more.

Sandi Klein

The Host

A graduate of NYU, Sandi began to build her storied 30-year broadcast career with stints at various New York City radio stations, including WKTU, WYNY, and WPLJ. That was followed by a captivating gig as co-host of “ARTS ALIVE AT THE ALGONQUIN,” where she interviewed such luminaries as Kurt Vonnegut, Wynton Marsalis, Ben Vereen, Jules Feiffer, Wendy Wasserstein, Anna Quindlen, Colleen Dewhurst, and Edward Albee. Then she went on to a near stint as a beloved anchor at 1010 WINS All News Radio.

Sandi launched Conversations with Creative Women in 2012, going on to interview nearly 500 creative women. She continued to build this extraordinary archive of women’s voices while engaged in a long battle with carcinoid syndrome, a devastating neuroendocrine cancer. Wife, mother, and grandmother, even after the death of her beloved husband of 42 years, NYC Housing Court Judge Jerald “Jerry” R. Klein, from leukemia in 2015, Sandi lived her life with gusto, never giving up. Eventually, sadly, we lost Sandi at the age of 73, on October 14, 2022.

News of Sandi’s death touched hundreds of people—many of whom had been guests on Conversations with Creative Women—who leftmovingnotesof admiration and gratitude on her Caring Bridge site.
