Distinguished American Studies lecturer Lee Quinby has launched an IndieGogo campaign to fund her latest documentary, Freak the Language. Produced, written and directed by Quinby and Sam Hampton, FTL focuses on the work of David Mills. For a period of time, the New York City resided in Langston Hughes’ landmark Harlem home, a stay that inspired him to write and perform a one-man dramatic rendition of the famous poets’ work — and later, Wells own original prose which, say the filmmakers, “illuminate how black lives matter.”
